Shawn M. Ferron is an experienced attorney who focuses his practice on family law, child protection, real estate and wills & estates.
He is passionate about helping clients during what can be deeply emotional and stressful times. His goal is to ensure that his clients make reasonable and effective decisions that protect their interests. Shawn has joined the Legal Aid Ontario roster in the areas of Family Law and Child Protection. Whether you are a private or legal aid client, he remains committed to you and your case. Matters he’s experienced with include but are not limited to: legal separation, divorce, parenting time and decision making, child support, spousal support, property division, and domestic contracts. Shawn was born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario where he spent most of his time in one of two places: the rink or the boat. Still today, he remains an avid fisherman and will escape to enjoy a day on the water any chance he gets.

Impressive Past Decade
2016
In 2016, Shawn obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Law and Economics from Laurentian University in Sudbury, ON.
2019
3 years later, he obtained his Juris Doctor degree from Moncton University’s Faculty of Law in Moncton, NB.
2020
In 2020, he moved to Ottawa, ON and began his articling at Cedric Nahum Law where he gained valuable experience in the areas of criminal and child protection law.
2021
In 2021, he was admitted to the Ontario Bar and shortly thereafter, he made one final re-location to Cobourg, ON.
Here, he began his career as an associate lawyer at ELH Law where he worked alongside accomplished lawyer and founder of the practice, Ms. Ember-Leigh Hamilton.
2023
After taking a couple of years to diligently develop his skills and acquaint himself with the firm and clients, Shawn officially took over the practice in 2023 when Ms. Hamilton took her well-earned retirement!
Then, ELH Law became Ferron Legal…and the rest of the story has yet to be written!

Melanie A. Dekoker

Melanie A. Dekoker is a Junior Lawyer who is eager to continue developing her family, estate and real estate law repertoire.
Melanie graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Paralegal Studies degree from Humber College in 2019 and became a licensed paralegal shortly thereafter. In the years that followed, Melanie split her time between providing legal support in various roles and studying to become a lawyer. In 2024, she obtained her Juris Doctor degree from Queen’s University Faculty of Law, and by 2025, she earned the title of a licensed lawyer through the Law Society of Ontario.Unlike Shawn; Melanie is local to Southern Ontario, having been born and raised in Cambridge before moving around and eventually settling into the Northumberland area. She is an avid reader and nature enthusiast, who spends most of her free time with her family on Rice Lake. She, like Shawn, feels most at peace in nature; however, you’re more likely to find Melanie on a hike with her dog rather than sitting with a line in the water like Shawn.
Melanie understands the complexities of family law and is committed to helping clients navigate these often trying times. As a member of the Legal Aid Ontario family law roster, she gladly offers her services and support to all those in need.
